Edo state has made improving the quality of emergency care and timely access a key focus of efforts to tackle challenges facing healthcare delivery in the state. As part of the Edo health Improvement Project (EDOHIP) overseen by Lauren Parker Ltd, improvements in care delivery have been ongoing in the state’s primary healthcare system.
EHCON was recently engaged to broaden EDOHIP’s mandate and tackle emergency and critical care in the state.
EHCON’s engagement kicked off in August 2020 with two weeks of training for over one hundred clinicians in Benin City in basic emergency care. Participants were also trained to obtain their American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) certification in a rigorous curriculum focused on hands on training and implemented by EHCON’s team of emergency care specialists and skilled trainers.
Plans are currently underway to expand training opportunities and introduce advanced modules as well as reorganize and restructure emergency care delivery in state hospitals.
Between April and July 2020, EHCON served as group medical director of Eti-Osa Isolation Center at Landmark with oversight from the Lagos state health service commission.
The centre was located at Water Corporation Road in Victoria Island Lagos and was a seventy-six bed facility with 15 high dependency unit (HDU) beds and 5 intensive care unit (ICU) beds brought to fruition and financed through the vision of the Lagos chapter of the Young President’s organization (YPO).
The centre was equipped to manage the full spectrum of COVID-19 and was equipped with an onsite lab as well XRay and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
EHCON emergency specialists led by Dr. Fasina manage clinical operations and serve as consultant intensive care physicians at the centre, managing the sickest COVID patients.
EHCON consultants were critical to the successful opening of the facility and supervise patient management, oversee site adminsitration as well as coordinate and organize training for the brilliant staff of nurses and doctors at the site in emergency and critical care.
